After spending most of his life and career in Michigan, Arthur Chiaravalli is now a school administrator at Champlain Valley Union High School in Vermont. Over the course of his career, he has taught several subjects in a wide variety of educational settings. His rare combination of concentrations—mathematics, language arts, and technology—allows him to communicate with teachers across the disciplinary spectrum. He is founder of Teachers Going Gradeless, which takes its name from his 2017 article that appeared in the Observer, setting off a tidal wave of interest from educators around the world wanting to join up and know more. Arthur is a husband and the father of eight children. He credits his homeschooling wife, Sarah, with revolutionizing much of his thinking around how learning happens naturally—when it is meaningful for the learner. When he isn’t puzzling over educational topics, Arthur enjoys spending time with family, writing music, and exploring the woods, lakes, and mountains of Vermont.
